SATURDAY, MAY 10:
Already well known as Pittsburgh's own cabaret diva, Sharon "Mama" Spell is showing a whole new side of herself; several dozen sides, in fact. Conceiving an exhibit dedicated to the versatility of artistic style and expression, she combined her innate creative talents with those of several local and national artists to bring into being a show entitled DUOS: Collaborations with Sharon Mama Spell, opening tonight at the Blue Ruin Gallery. Each collaborating artist was given 10 provocative "Mama's-eye-view" self-portrait line drawings of Spell's body to reinterpret in their own medium and from their own point of view, which includes sexual preferences and gender. The results, according to gallery co-curator Tamara Moore, "were unique, fascinating and truly imaginative." And quite befitting, it seems, of this most versatile of Mamas. Through June 14. Opening reception tonight, 7 p.m. South Side. 412.488.9121
