Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Monday, March 04, 2002 ...The invitation to the party for "Possession Obsession: Objects From Andy Warhol's Personal Collection" encouraged guests to flaunt their obsessions and possessions and be part of the show. A surprising number of people took the suggestion seriously. The attire ranged from nothing at all enhanced by a coat of gold dust to assorted fetish outfits, leathers and feathers, fishnet and fur, electrical tape placed over strategic outlets and even an entire wearable poodle collection. Everywhere you looked there was something to see, and that's not even counting the extraordinary exhibit of Warhol's stuff so wonderfully arrayed by architects Rebecca Henn and David Celento, the show's designers. A steady stream of guests made the trek upstairs, including
donors like Gerry Grinberg, the chairman of Movado Group (think watches),
who now owns Warhol's collection of cookie jars. Lawyer John Pramberg,
a descendant of Daniel Webster, loaned the bust by John Crookshank King
and came from Boston to see it. Lumber baron Joe Hardy (with board member
Christine Toretti) lent his cigar store figure. Aaronel de Roy Gruber
shared some decorative pieces, and Paige Powell, in from Portland, lent
a painting and bookcase. Before and after viewing the exhibit, guests
congregated on the first and, especially, second floors, where disco queen
Linda Clifford kept the crowd dancing and the bars stayed busy. Want
something different? How about Bingo Karaoke with Mama Spell in the cafe. Sushi and the best brownies in the 'Burgh provided sustenance.... |
